Description
Fields of Arle, created by the acclaimed designer Uwe Rosenberg, invites one to two players to experience the life of a farmer in the peaceful town of Arle in East Frisia. Set during an era of significant prosperity driven by the local flax industry, the game spans four and a half years of agricultural development. As the seasons shift, you must adapt your strategy to the changing opportunities available in the spring and autumn. Whether you choose to capitalise on the high demand for flax or pursue other avenues of trade, your goal is to manage your resources effectively to ensure your family and farm thrive in this detailed historical simulation.
Working the land requires careful planning and constant expansion. To make your village grow, you must construct dikes to hold back the encroaching waters and dry out bogs to harvest valuable peat. Once the land is cleared, the choice is yours: will you cultivate vast forests for timber, create sprawling fields for crops, or build enclosures for your livestock? The game offers deep customisation of your estate, allowing you to diversify your efforts or specialise in a specific area of expertise. As you improve your infrastructure, you can use the Master space to upgrade your tools, ensuring that every action you take is more efficient than the last.
Prosperity is not found only in the soil, but also in the trade routes that connect Arle to the wider world. By building a fleet of vehicles, you can ship your processed goods to distant markets, gaining valuable Travel Experience and increasing your score. Each half-year cycle concludes with the essential task of unloading your vehicles and ensuring your family and animals are well-fed, requiring a keen eye on your food stores and seasonal yields. With numerous paths to success and a high level of strategic depth, Fields of Arle provides a rewarding and tranquil competitive experience for those who appreciate the art of the long-term plan.
