In 3 Ring Circus, players take on the exciting role of a determined circus director, embarking on a grand tour across the United States at the vibrant end of the 19th century. Your primary objective is to strategically hire a diverse array of talented artists and offer captivating performances in various towns and bustling cities, all with the intention of accumulating the most prestigious fame.

Setting up your initial features in smaller towns is relatively easy and provides you with essential starting resources to upgrade your talented cast. Small cities present a slightly greater challenge but offer the valuable opportunity to come into contact with even more skilled and renowned artists. The audiences in the big cities are the most demanding, expecting very specific acts and performances, but successfully entertaining them brings you a significant boost in fame! On their turn, players can choose to either hire a new and exciting artist to join their troupe or host a spectacular performance for the eager public.

At the very beginning of the game, each player's circus is empty, making it crucial to strategically contract artists to form the core of your company. The artist cards you acquire grant varying levels of benefits depending on their specific role and the order in which they perform, making careful planning of your shows one of the key strategic elements of the game. If you choose to host a performance, you must move your circus to a free space on the game map. Performing in a small town grants you the most basic currency cards as a reward. If you perform in a small city, the number of pedestals you have within your company determines how many entry cards (the second most valuable currency) or fame points you can claim. Big cities offer the greatest rewards in terms of fame points, but the discerning public always demands a very specific type of artist in your performance.

While your little circus strives to survive and thrive on the competitive circuit, the great and splendid Barnum Circus also travels across the country. When the Barnum Circus arrives in a big city, a scoring opportunity is triggered in that specific region, and the circuses that have given the most successful performances there will gain even more valuable fame!
