Description
Arboretum is a strategy card game for 2-4 players, aged 10 and up, that combines set collection, tile-laying, and hand management in a delightful 25-minute gameplay experience. Players compete to create the most beautiful garden paths and score the highest points by the end of the game.
The game includes a deck of 80 cards in ten different colours, each colour representing a different species of tree and numbered 1 through 8. The number of colours used in the game depends on the number of players. Players begin with a hand of seven cards.
Gameplay Overview:
- Draw: On each turn, a player draws two cards from the deck or the discard piles.
- Play: The player then lays a card on the table as part of their arboretum.
- Discard: The player discards a card to their personal discard pile.
Once the deck is exhausted, players compare the cards remaining in their hands to determine who can score each colour. For each colour, the player(s) with the highest value of cards in hand of that colour score for a path of trees in their arboretum that begins and ends with that colour. A path is an orthogonally adjacent chain of cards with increasing values. Each card in a scoring path earns one point, or two points per card if the path consists solely of trees of the color being scored. Players who do not have the highest value for a colour score zero points for paths of that colour. The player with the most points wins.
